2004 Gallery

  • Matthew Hagan: This is a Blue Fin Tuna caught on 10-25-03 at the BB Buoy.  Caught by Mike Bacon, Christian Giordini, Matt Hagan and Chris aboard the Lady K.  The fish measured 120" and 870 lbs.  Two plus hours to catch and boat.  The pictures were taken at night so they are not quite clear but the size of the fish is clear.
  • Bill Hubbard: A 12 lb. Bluefish from the Great Outer Beach, Cape Cod, Nov. 1., 2004
  • Joel Meunier: My friend Brian Daly with his personal best…a 42” cow taken on 9/11/04 on a jig and a rubber eel off Chatham aboard the Umero Nuno,  assisted by Scott Thibault, Gary Morin, and myself.   This one went back into the water unharmed.
  • Jim Stone: This is a picture my wife took on 9/6. It was taken at the mouth of the Saco River at sunrise.
  • Ron Cooper: Ron's 1st tuna assisted by Dale Hubbard and Tom Sheehy aboard the Lady Katherine - August 2004
  • Josko Catipovic: 24" 4 lb 12 oz brown trout.  It hit a size 18 pheasant tail on 6x tippet on the Deerfield river and took a good 15 mins to land.
  • Ron Caulfield:  Two Stripers in one hour with both personal best on a Fly Rod! The first caught as pictured was 41" @ 26 pounds. The second topped that at 42" and 30 pounds. Both fish were caught on a foggy Saturday morning - 5/22/04- with very large Deceivers. We were fishing sinking lines on 10-12wgt rods over a rip when these appeared on top chasing Squid.
  • Justin Delaney: This is the very first striper my friend Paul Bomer caught at Bishops and Clerk off Hyannis . It was an overcast, flat calm day, and three huge schools were on the surface. It looked like they were just waiting for a popper to land in there mouths. If the cast wasn’t dead on they weren’t interested.  About a dozen cast’s later, Paul finally got the popper close enough to spark one’s interest. We caught fish for the next hour before they moved on. The shear numbers and size of all these fish in one area was amazing.
  • Al Launier: Bulefin Tuna on a Fly Rod. This schoolie Bluefin Tuna was caught off Rye, NH on a 9', 9 wt. fly rod in September, 2002. Took 2 hrs. and weighed 48 lbs. Almost spooled 3 times and well into the backing 8 other times. Without my partner Oliver Radke (on the right) to help with the boat to chase down the BFT and gaff it, this would have been over shortly.
  • Arthur Gasbarro: August, 2003 on board the Endurance.  It was a fatty! My first experience getting taken to the rail.  The battle was just under an hour. Unforgettable!
  • Eric Savetsky: These two photos are of a 250lb. Bigeye taken at dusk in Atlantis Canyon trolling.  The fish was an absolute beast and took over 1 hour to land on a Shimano Tiagra 50wlrs.  Then angler, Tim Costello, said the fish was nearly as tough as the 780lb. Bluefin he landed with me a few years ago, also on standup gear.  This Bigeye would not come to the boat.  We had him 40 feet from the boat for at least 20 minutes, but couldn't muscle it closer, until finally we got it within harpoon range and I chucked the spear and luckily nailed it.
  • Eric Savetsky: A 120lb. swordfish caught by Art Gasbaro onboard Endurance while chunking at arond 2:30am.  Art was fishing hard on his watch, and the swordfish came up into the chunkline and took the tuna bait closest to the boat.  Art heard a big splash and the fight was on.  The rod had a 40lb. test mono leader meant for school tuna.  We were using flats of herring from the giant bluefin fishery, as we had been out at the BB Buoy and the fishing was poor, so after one day and one night out east we left the Great South Channel and headed for the canyons.  The trip paid off with our first swordfish ever. What a treat !
  • Eric Savetsky: Our humble webmaster, Jeff Smith, onboard Endurance, bags a 330lb. Bluefin east of Nantucket using a live bluefish on the surface.  Ken Catch took care of the end game with a perfect harpoon shot.  Incidentally, the fish was very skinny and was trailing a long heavy mono longline leader with weighter swivel with the hook imbedded in the roof of its mouth.

2003 Gallery

  • J.C. Burke: These three photos are of the third fish we caught in North Carolina. You can see the poon doing its job. That fish was 83` and dressed out at 261-lbs. [view] [view] [view]  Here are some shots of our first Carolina Blue fin tuna. It was 79` long & dressed out at 227-lbs. You can see in one of the photos that the fish had been eating crabs. The guy on the rod was my mate for this trip Bobby Fuller. He did an outstanding job !
  • Josko Catipovic: Marco with a nice 7 lb Brown in  and with a bent rod on the Salmon in October, 2003.  Here he is with with his guide Dave Barber with a nice 13 lb Steelhead in March, 2003.
  • Marco Catipovic: ....caught this Coho on my trip to the Salmon River this October.
  • J.C. Burke: Caught this Wahoo on 11-4-03, while on a delivery to West Palm Beach, it hit a black & purple islander jr. rigged with a ballyhoo. The owner was a very happy man!  Estimated weight was 80 lbs.
  • Joel Meunier:  It's one of many nice Blues I took with my good friend John Brawley in Wellfleet this past August.   This was the finest days of top-water fishing I have ever experienced.   Many fish in the 12-14 pound range, and one that went 17pounds.   If you look closely, you might notice that the tail end of my popper has been chewed down to the wood.  It was the only lure out of 30 or so that wasn’t bitten off.
  • J.C. Burke: This Yellowfin was caught on the chunk bite on 10-8-03 at around 2100 hrs at Atlantis canyon estimated weight 85-lbs.It was nice to reel one in for a change .
  • Christopher Godino:  This 207 bigeye was caught aboard the SON FISH on 8/15/03 during  Falmouth Grandprix.  The Angler was Thomas Stratton 14 years of age fish with A Penn 50TW loaded with 60 momoi diamond line. This fish inhaled one of Thomas's Rigged Ballyhoos to take third place overall and largest Tuna of the event Thomas also was the first place junior angler with the most total points. He was assisted by His two brothers Mike and James with Dad at the Helm also aboard was Capt. Chris Godino - excellent team effort to put this one in the Box after 1 hour and 45 minutes on the rod.
  • J.C. Burke: This is now the official state record Wahoo. It weighed in at 92-lbs. and it was caught on a star rod with an original Penn 50 single speed reel  spooled with 60-lb Momi-Momi blue diamond line. The angler was Rich Laurendeau & this fish was caught on the first day of the Falmouth Grand Prix. It helped us take second place in the tournament on Jack Laurendeau`s Cabo -45` Sweet Caroline.

  • Capt. J.C. Burke:  Caught this Blackfin tuna on Thursday the 27 of March on the evening bite off of Pelican key the Abacos on a 1/2 once white feather fished way back in clean water. It might not look like it but it weighed in at just over 15 lbs. It is my biggest Blackfin to date & it tasted great!
  • Captain Dave Steves: Blue fin tuna caught on 20 lb test with a Kicker Jig 15. October, 2003
  • Pete Gray: I took the close up of a striper pal at Chatham inlet just before I sent him back to get his big sister - June 02.  The aerial was taken off the western common flatz of N Monomoy last Spring.

2002 Gallery

  • Cal Hulstein: My son, Chuck, caught this 41” striper fishing with Dave Steeves in June of 2001.  We had a great day fishing with Sluggos and must have caught at least 20 stripers in 4 hours.  This was the biggest one.
  • Tom Tamanini: My biggest King, 60 lbs. caught on a Fuchsia woolly worm, took about 25 min.  Used a G Loomis GLX 8 wt. SA sinking tip.  Was on a fly-out from Soldotna Alaska, July 23.  Caught over fifty Salmon that were over 20 lbs.  The most fantastic trip I've ever had.
  • Geoff Wilson: This is a 43 inch striper caught and released on October 1, 2002 from the Merrimack River in Newburyport MA.  The fish was taken on a 2 inch EP Pinfish delivered with a 7/8 wt fly rod with a 12 lb. tippet.  I sure hope it does not take another 12 years to catch another one like this on a fly rod.
  • Peter McCarthy: Pictures of my recent trip to Cape Cod, where I was lucky enough to spend Sunday 9/22 with Captain Steve Moore. We headed out of Barnstable Marina about 7:00am looking for bluefin tuna. We had no trouble locating pods of bluefin as they crashed the bait, it was truly an amazing sight to see, as 50-150lb tuna were coming completely out of the water chasing bait, it looked just like schools of albies, but they were bluefin. The bigger fish (75 lbs.) was taken on a spinning rod first.  The second bluefin (65 lbs.) willingly inhaled a 5" skok's mushmouth black  and purple over white, the fight lasted approx. 1 1/2 hrs. and I did snap the 12wt GL3 boat side, but at that point did not care. Capt. Steve has a truly amazing  bluefin tuna fishery up there in CC bay, everyone who fly fishes the salt should hook a bluefin tuna at least once.
  • Luke Retacco: Caught & released this 19lb. (Boga Grip) Striped Bass on a #10 Rod using 10lb. tippet at “The Ruins” by Gardiners Island in eastern Long Island Sound.  Fish was caught on a sand eel pattern on 6/21/02 .
  • Brett Finger:  I am fortunate to live in Bundaberg,Queensland.AUS.  This place sees a good run of tuna each year, Longtails,  Yellowfin, Mack Tuna, Bineto.  This is the first Longtail I had ever caught. I have since then taken another 49.
  • Luke Retacco: Lianna Ford caught her first Jack Crevalle in Palm Beach, FL in March 2002 using a #10 Loomis Rod and 500 grain sinking line with a flashy deciever style fly.
  • Steve Borg: 1997.....30 miles off Block Island....chunking butterfish.....1 hour fight.....dressed out at 210 pounds.....fish tuna ever caught....and one helluva nice Sally.
  • Neil Cronin with a fly caught sailfish over 145 pounds and caught out of Crocodile Bay Lodge in Costa Rica In February of 2002.
  • David & Robin Hallac: Robin and Dave show off their early May catches. Their take includes this 17 lb False Albacore, 22 lb. Cobia, 26 lb. Jack Crevalle, and a 19 lb. Kingfish.
  • Dennis Aquino: These are a couple of Steelhead I caught fishing the Oswego river on Eastern lake Ontario. This first fish is a 36 inch male, the second is a 38 inch female. Both fish were released to fight another day.
  • Dave Motes:  This may look like a striper to you guys, but it's a rockfish--a big one for the Chesapeake. I took it on a large Deceiver in late November, during the late fall blitz of big fish in the middle bay near the mouth of the Rapahannock. Just to the left of my left hand, and on the other side of the fish, was a large scar from a seal or shark. The fish weighed about 22 pounds. We caught several other fish in the 15-20 pound range in the next two hours.
  • Ben Badofsky:  This 8-year-old angler is seen here with his first Pacific Sailfish -- a 100-pounder . Ben caught this beauty on his own, and it took 40 minutes to land. He also shows off his 28-pound Amberjack,  his 34-pound bull Dorado,  his 51-pound Roosterfish,  and his 8-pound Bonito, all caught at the Tropic Star Lodge, Pinas Bay, Panama (March 2002).
  • Neil Rice: This big jack was caught last May just north of the inlet in Stuart Florida. I have come to understand that fish like this one will show up each Spring. Large schools will cruise the beaches and fish of 40# are hooked regularly. This fish was taken on a nine weight, floating line, on a white popper.

  • Micheal Witek: Although I am a very avid Flyfisherman,  I do admit this particular Bass was not caught on the fly, however caught on stand up tackle, 20 lb. test with 60 lb. shock tippet in 145 feet of water at the race this past October drifting bucktails. Ken P. and I fish many times a year together on his boats out in Nantucket and always do well.  These photos are a few shots of he and I this past fall during the Bonita Blitz. I must say we did very well. Location in Nantucket, place cannot be divulged other than we caught them on a west tide off the west end. Rod: My gear: Sage RPLXi Saltwater Series 9-weight: Reel: Lamson # 2 with Scientific Anglers line: 15 lbs. leader with 60 lbs shock. Fly # 2 deceiver - white and red with peacock. • Ken Panacek: 2001 Nantucket - Osterville Bluefish Tournament - It should have been a bass touney !

  • Ron Cooper: I caught this blue on a charter with Ray Stachelek (the charter that Ray donated to auction for this board last year). This blue was caught on a spinning rod and popper.  When we got the fish in, he had the head of another blue attached to him with hook and line!   Quite unusual.

Now kids want to know why Daddy doesn't catch bigger fish for dinner all the time.
Walter Young: here's a photo of my first unguided caught bonefish from Grand Bahama Island on Feb 23rd, and the fly that it ate. If anyone is going to Grand Bahama, send me an e-mail and I'll forward info on locations that can be fished from shore.
