EXORCIST
Yeah yeaah I know...weird name for a fly... And no I don’t walk the beaches
with a cross and holy water...But ya gotta admit it was a pretty kewyl
movie..;-).....This fly like most of my flies originated while sitting on
the hopper thinking about fishing. Embarrasing but...TRUE! With Labor Day
coming up quick and the hordes of people going home the beaches will
open up again and I will be wandering the shores in search of fish. I
will be doing a lot of early morning fishing in Sept and wanted a fly
that would hopefully do the trick!....Well here she is totally untested
and rarin to go.....This thing is a piece of cake to tye and has a really
clean look.....Give the Exorcist a try. See ya out there.....cheers....Jeff
Exorcist
- Hook: Gamakatsu 5/0 Live Eel hook
- Thread: Larva Lace mono or 3/0 black monocord
- Tail: Sparse clump of long white bucktail layered with Tyewell Polar
Flash ...mix of peacock and gold. Next 4 long black saddle hackles tyed in flat wing
style are tyed in over the flash.
- Collar: A sparse clump of black bucktail is tyed in 180 degrees around
the top of the shank extending beyond the bend of the hook. Black/Purple Holographic
flashabou is then tyed in over the bucktail. Next take a black marabou plume and tye
directly on top slightly rolling and working the plume to the side.
- Body:None
- Head: I used Corsair tubing that was woven with silver and black nylon.
Easy Body is another brand of tubing you can use. Cut a piece about 1.5 to 2 inches long and slip
over eye of hook and tye in about 1/3 the way back from the eye. Whip finish and cut
thread. Apply a drop of head cement. The excess tubing should be hanging off the eye of the
hook. Next slide tubing back over itself to form the head and tye off at eye of hook. Pinch the head with your
fingers to give the head a flat side profile.
- Eyes Red prismatic. Apply with a dab of Shoe Goo or similar product.
