BLUE CHEW

If  you happen to frequent my bulletin board forum you would already know that bluefish showed up big time last week in my neck of the woods...Sure I know when blues are going bonkers that anything will catch them, but I wanted to specifically tie a fly just for them.  When I take non-flyfishers out and we get into the blues I put on a Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow.  This swimmer has fantastic side to side action and comes in some really cool metallic colors....In other words....bluefish find them pretty irresistable....So when I sat down to tye up something the Yo-Zuri idea was what I was looking for....I was pretty pleased with the results and the bluefish thought so too!...Best of all they held up pretty darn good!  The Blue Chew fly is tyed with Thompson Ultra Hair which is really durable stuff....I also use a good bunch of saltwater Flashabou and several other types of flash for added appeal...The trick to this fly is to stack the Ultra Hair on top and bottom using very very sparse clumps.  Tye in flash between the clumps as you move forward.   Make sure the ends of the Ultra Hair and flashabou  are uneven to give the fly a better profile when wet.  Top off with a good pinch of Diamond Hair and use Pink Diamond Hair on the sides for gill effect.  Epoxy the head with the 5 minute stuff and work it in slightly past the head into the hair.  Then take some large stick on eyes and apply....Squeeze the eyes together and flair the hair manually with your fingers to get the correct profile...Keep it moving till it sets....Pretty easy huh? ...And cheap too...Flies like this retail near $10.00 in specialty fly shops....Colors are endless and remember that this fly would probably make a good menhaden or bunker imitation also...Hope it works for you !!...cheers...Jeff
