
Blueback Herring (Mega)
This pattern is tyed the same way that "Buffy" is tyed except
I opted for a 6/0 Trey Combs big game hook instead of a 4/0.
Also, I used 1/2 EZ body braid instead of 1/4 inch which gives
this large fly a bigger profile. 5/8 3d plastic eyes were used instead
of the 1/2". Give this fly a try and get ready for the "ooooohs and
ahhs" from your fishing buddies....tight threads...Jeff
Blueback Herring (Mega)
- THREAD: Larva Lace clear mono thread
- HOOK: Trey Combs Big Game size 6/0
- TAIL: sparse yak hair.
- BODY: none
- SPREADER: 1/2 inch EZ body braid...Corsair tubing will work also
- BELLY: White yak hair
- LOWER WING: White yak hair with Tiewell Polar Flash and grey ghost (neutral)
crystal flash.
- UPPER WING: Light blue yak hair which is topped with a dozen strands
of light blue crystal flash which is topped with a pinch of lavendar fly fur
which is topped with a darker blue yak hair which is topped with peacock
crystal flash.
- TOPPING: Peacock herl.
- GILL EFFECT: Red tapered fishair...(sparse)
- EYES: 5/8 inch plastic epoxied onto spreader base.
- HEAD: Epoxy
